WBL intro videos

What did you discuss in your videos?

We talked about what our placement or our desired placement. Then we talked about what we do or would do at our placement. Next we talked about how you conduct yourself on the job, how we use literacy on the job, and how we use numeracy incorporated on the job. There were a lot of different types of answers because a lot of people have different job placements in the class.

Do you feel your videos are a good representation of yourself?  Would an admissions officer or scholarship panel be impressed by your submission?

I feel that my videos are a very good representation of myself. It shows the way I speak and how professional I am. I believe that if I were to show this to an admissions officer or scholarship panel that they would be impressed. I’m sure that there will not be a lot of people that will have a video file to turn in. it will make me stand out and be remembered.

Explain the purpose of having these as evidence of excellent work in an electronic portfolio.

The purpose of having this electronically is because everything can be done online today. Doing everything online makes things much faster and much easier to keep track of.

What other activities would you like to do next semester to add to your portfolio?

I am hoping to make more videos to further explain my strengths and I am hoping to get more work done from DRVN. It will give me real world work that I will be able to show that I really know what I am doing.

Which social media platform did you work on?

This week I worked on our YouTube page with Justice. We began to set up our info and are now in the works of uploading videos.

What did you notice about other effective accounts and how did you incorporate them into our WBL account?

 The rest of the class is working on a website, twitter, and a google plus account. This will allow us the ability to show them to employers and or colleges.

How well do you think you performed in the presentation?

I think that I did well and I have filed down to the main points I want to say and I will look more confident. I still have some nerves that are obvious in the video but with work on it and experience I will get better and make a very well made professional intro.

How will our social media platforms help others understand what we do in class?

With our YouTube page we will be able to make videos about what we do in a day, who we are, and what we plan to achieve. This will help us look more professional in the future.

Do you think students will be interested in enrolling in WBL as a result of what we’ve posted?  Why or why not?

I think students like me will be more interested because you will be able to see how it is helping us and how it will make us look better in our portfolio. 

This Week

The artifacts I believe you should have to demonstrate professionalism and ethical behavior is to have a portfolio that consists of a resume and any achievements or awards you have obtained in the past. Having one of these ready and saved on your computer at all times. This way if you get a wonderful job interview or you have someone investing in you or your ideas then you can show them what you’re made of.

           

The interesting things I have learned this week have come from stories from students talking about the experiences they have had at they’re job. I have heard from an employee that works at a pizza shop that he will have multiple customers try to skip the entire way the establishment works and mess the order up of everything. I have heard from a student that works at a waffle house they have had multiple drug related situations happen there. They have people come into work drunk and or high. They have had employees do it while at work, witch I’m really not too sure how this works, but personally the worst of all they have had people, some employees, selling drugs out of the establishment. Just hearing stories like this it makes me wonder how some people like that still have they’re jobs. Then it’s bad for the company because it will then get a bad rap. I hope these people realize this is a bad idea before things get really bad for them.

My Digital Footprint

Social media, is it a good thing or a bad thing? I don’t think that it’s a question that you can just answer that easily though. I believe that it’s a good thing to have because it makes it easier for us to be more social. While this is a good thing there is something that makes social media a very bad thing to have and the same time. You have to be careful and watch your digital footprint.

           

Digital footprint? The way I think of the digital footprint it’s whatever you have on the internet. Facebook, twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Myspace, Tublr, etc. there’s just too much to count no a days. Say if you were to post a picture of you at a friend’s house on Facebook and you all were doing something you weren’t supposed to be doing. Your mama isn’t the only person you need to be worried about seeing that picture. What if you have a job interview the next week and you forget to take that picture down and they look at your Facebook and see it. The next thing that they’ll do is throw your application right out the window. Or maybe you do remember to delete it off your page and you think all is well but you still go into the interview with your application in the trash because Bob, the guy you used to hang out thinks it’s a funny picture so he screenshots it posts it on his Facebook. Situations like these happen a lot more often than you would think. Sometimes it doesn’t even have to be something you posted or a friend. It might be able to be the people you follow on Instagram. Or the tweet you retweeted because you thought it was funny. It is every little thing that you say and post on line.

The worst part is sometimes you don’t have to be online at all for you to have a digital footprint. Almost everything that you do can and will be found online, for example, say you don’t even have a computer at all but you get arrested for public intoxication. Well that is now online and can be found with a simple name search in google.

I’m not saying that the internet or social media is bad; all I’m saying is that you might want to be more careful of what you post online and in general for that matter. There is so many ways bad thing of you can end up online. 

My Week in WBL

My Week in WBL

This week I have learned a lot about the aspects of the career choice I am going for. I have also had the chance to listen to three guest speakers that we had in the class.

                The first gentlemen I had the chance to listen to were Dr. Carrigan. He is a well-known employee for Premier Medical and he was a wonderful speaker about the medical field. The only problem I had with him speaking to me was that he is in medical. I know nothing about medical and I honestly don’t plan on going into any sort of medical role. I did find his speaking very nice and it was still interesting to be able to listen to someone in his job position.

                The next person was Russell Roberts. He is from Premier Medical as well. I did enjoy what he was saying to us and I found what he was saying intriguing. He was more from the IT and finances department which I can speak more about then the medical field. He gave us very interesting info and he allowed us to ask our questions and he answered our questions very thoroughly. He also gave out FULL SIZED candy bars to the people that asked good questions so the was a plus!

                The last person’s name was Lloyd Stinson and he was also from Premier Medical. I unfortunately was not able to listen to this guess speaker. I heard he did a very good job and was even applauded at the end of his speaking so I really wish I was there to hear his message. He was the person that I feel that I would have enjoyed listening to the most do to the fact that his job position is most in lined with what I am striving for. 

                I also think that this class is going at a very well set pace. When we were first talking about the blog, YouTube, and maybe a pod cast I was getting nervous about it because I felt that we were about to be thrown in to it and hoping for the best. I am happy that things did not go the way I thought they were. I am now excited to get started on some real business work so that I can gain that experience that I took this class to get.

What WBL is to me!!

What Work Based Learning is to Me

To me this is a class is going to help me become a better business person. This class will help me get the experience I need in order to be more professional and have work that I can show in my portfolio.

The first major thing that will be a good thing to get out of this class is the “work”. We have work for this class but it will be cool things like a blog, a YouTube page, and we might be able to make a podcast here and there. These are things that I have never done before and have no experience in but it is something that I have always been interested in. While doing these things I will be working to better my creativity and this will help my ideas of how to do things.

The next thing I will be doing is getting in to a whole new world. I will be able to connect with a whole new range of people and characters. I will hopefully be able to come into contact with people that have established themselves as a blogger and see what they do that I could possibly do in my blog. The other huge “world” I will becoming a part of is the YouTube. The YouTube world is crazy gigantic. There are thousands of people on YouTube in every country talking and doing tons of different things. The way this will help me is the same concept as the blog. I will hopefully be able to talk to people and figure out what is making them so popular.

Doing this thing with this class I will hopefully be able to build new relationships with new people all other the world. I will hopefully be able to project my name out there and with that I can say that I was successful and achieved everything I strived out to do.
